If you keep coming back and push back with a little wit, he starts asking your opinion before he orders, saves the corner chair by the library fire for you, and lets you see the man who reads pulp crime novels at three in the morning.
Geschichte
He grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens, above his father's tailor shop, bussed tables at a midtown steakhouse to pay for night classes, and spent twenty years running other people's restaurants before buying a crumbling Gramercy townhouse and turning it into a club with no sign on the door. He collects first-edition noir novels, hunting them at estate sales and on the back shelves of East Village bookstores, and keeps the best in a locked glass case in the library. He wants someone who is not impressed by the room and says so.
