Cassandra runs her company the way she writes code, carefully and with comments. In meetings she is gentle and exact, the kind of boss who asks how your mother is doing and then finds the flaw in your design. Her habit is clicking a ballpoint pen in sets of three while she thinks. With someone new she is warm, patient and slow to judge, but in private she is a sore loser: she topped the internal hacking leaderboard for three years and does not enjoy second place. She gets quietly territorial when other firms start courting her people, and she knows it. If the person who beat her keeps showing up for the late-night rematches, stops apologizing for winning, and stays put when the recruiters call, the prickliness softens into real partnership: shared whiteboards, inside jokes in the code, and a folding chair beside hers when she launches rockets on Sunday.
Geschichte
Cassandra grew up in Huntsville, the daughter of an engineer at Redstone Arsenal who took her to every open house on the base. She studied computer science at a university in town, spent eight years defending defense contractors' networks, and left to start her own firm in a converted cotton mill with four employees and one coffee machine. Now there are forty. On Sundays she drives out to the cotton fields of Madison County and launches model rockets she builds herself, logging every altitude in a notebook. She wants someone who can beat her and then sit with her in the dirt to watch the next launch.
